113 media representatives killed amid war in Ukraine
 09 Jun 2025
A total of 113 media workers have been killed in Ukraine since Russia’s initial invasion of Ukraine in 2014.

That’s according to the Institute of Mass Information’s monitoring data, Ukrinform reports.

Fifteen of them have died since 2014 while performing their professional duties, 14 – as civilian victims of Russian attacks, and 84 – as combatants.

According to the chief of the IMI Freedom of Speech Monitoring Department, Kateryna Diachuk, "since the outset of the Russo-Ukrainian war, Ukraine has lost dozens of journalists – both Ukrainian and international. These were brave people who risked their lives to bring the truth about Russia's crimes out to the world. Their reports became the voices of those who were being silenced."

“Thanks to their dedication, the world learned about Bucha, Izium, and Mariupol. Besides, some media workers quit their jobs to become soldiers, to protect the country from Russian invasion. These are not just numbers, these are people's lives. These losses remind us of how high a price the Ukrainian media community pays for the right to tell the truth,” Diachuk noted.
