Television and film professionals from over 10 countries gathered in Sofia for a landmark event as United Media and Nova Broadcasting Group hosted the International Emmy® Awards’ semi-final judging round in the Comedy category—the first of its kind in Bulgaria.
Held last week in the heart of Sofia, the event celebrated the artistry, culture, and achievements of the global television and film industry. This marks the fourth consecutive year United Media has hosted the prestigious judging round, following editions in Dubrovnik, Athens, and Pula. Derek Yen, Director of Emmy® Awards Judging, praised the organizers: "We thank United Media and Nova Broadcasting Group for assembling such a distinguished regional jury—this time in Bulgaria. These events are a vital part of the International Emmy® Awards’ competition." The jury comprised renowned industry figures, including Natasha Buljan (United Media’s Head of Drama Development); Vyara Ankova (COO of Nova Broadcasting Group); Sanja Tucman (Nova TV Croatia’s Production Director) Martichka Bozhilova (Producer, Bulgaria); Viktor Chuchkov (Director/Screenwriter, Bulgaria); and Gordan Kičić (Actor/Director, Serbia). Alexandra Subotić, CEO of United Media, highlighted the company’s growing influence: "Our recent acquisition of a 50% stake in Greece’s Alpha TV and its production arm Green Pixel opens new doors for impactful storytelling. Last year alone, we invested €200 million in content—60% dedicated to local productions. Beyond series, we’re now focusing on documentaries that educate and resonate globally." She also announced plans to expand Nova Docu, United Media’s regional documentary VOD platform, with increased investments in 2026. Following the judging, an elegant gala dinner, hosted by journalist Nikolay Doynov, brought together Bulgaria’s Minister of Culture Marian Bachev, actors, directors, and industry leaders. RELATED
