Netflix Poland announced that it has commissioned a biopic feature about the life of Polish rock legend Jan Borysewicz.
Poland, 1983. The leader of the band Lady Pank, Jan Borysewicz, takes the stage against the orders of the communist militia, who want to censor one of his songs. The concert is stopped, and the musicians are arrested. The film flashes back in time to show how it all began—the story of a charismatic but complex artist unfolds before the viewer. "Jan Borysewicz is an extremely important figure in Polish culture—a rock icon whose work and charisma shaped the musical consciousness of many generations. This film will be a passionate story aimed directly at fans, but also an incredibly compelling on-screen adaptation of the amazing story of exceptional people. The project involves both acclaimed creators with whom we have had the opportunity to work before and talented newcomers — and I am convinced that this will allow us to create a fresh, engaging cinematic story," said Łukasz Kłuskiewicz, Director of Programming, Netflix CEE. Mikołaj Bukrewicz will play Jan Borysewicz. The other members of the Lady Pank band will be played by: Hubert Miłkowski, Krzysztof Oleksyn, Mikołaj Matczak and Marcel Barra. Borysewicz's story, set in the realities of the '80s and '90s, is a tale of rebellion, passion, and the price that can be paid for artistic freedom. Jan Borysewicz: "I’m incredibly excited to see the story of Lady Pank and my journey brought to the screen. I hope this film will show that back then, music was more than just playing — it was a form of our freedom." Agnieszka Knysak - Sandecka will be the executive producer of this Paprika Studios production. RELATED
